Jim Daniel Jordan Is Unfit For U.S. House Speakership
We’re covering the fiasco in the U.S. House of Representatives – in the search for a speaker after the ouster of Kevin McCarthy. The U.S. House of Representatives is in chaos as the Republican party struggles to select a new speaker. This moment comes after the removal of Kevin McCarthy two weeks ago. Unfortunately, this is the second time the GOP has disagreed on who should lead them this year. The infighting within the party has left them in disarray and unable to move forward on critical legislative issues. Moreover, the inability to choose a strong leader has raised concerns about the party’s ability to maintain control of the House in the upcoming election. As the stalemate continues, the future of the House remains uncertain.
James Daniel Jordan was recently named an official Republican nominee for the House Speaker. However, it has raised concerns about how Jordan, who has not distinguished himself in his current capacity, could qualify for a higher office. Before his career in politics, Jordan was a collegiate wrestler and college assistant wrestling coach. While at Ohio State University, there was the allegation that Jordan had concealed his knowledge of sexual misconduct perpetrated by the deceased wrestling team physician, Richard Strauss. At least four former wrestlers have named Jordan a defendant in a lawsuit against the university. These allegations have questioned Jordan’s fitness for a higher office and his ability to lead with integrity.
Rep. Jim Jordan’s political career spans over two decades, during which he has served in various capacities — elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1994 and later to the State Senate in 2000. In 2006, he won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he has remained ever since. He has also served as the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, a group of conservative lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
Throughout his 17-year tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, Jim Jordan has been known for his bombastic and aggressive style. Despite this, Jordan has never written or supported a bill that has become law in Congress. His supporters have branded him as a firebrand and a booming presence, but this has not translated into significant legislative achievements. Instead, Jordan is a master of deception, willing to expose his corrupt tendencies publicly. Even former Republican Speaker Jon Boehner has described him as a “legislative terrorist” who tears things down rather than building them up.
Rep. Jim Jordan, a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, has frequently been in the news for his controversial actions during and after Trump’s presidency. Jordan has been involved in several efforts to discredit investigations into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election and staged a sit-in to prevent a Trump impeachment inquiry hearing over the Trump-Zelenskyy telephone controversy. Moreover, Jordan supported lawsuits to challenge the 2020 presidential election results and voted not to certify the Electoral College results.
Most recently, Jordan has refused to cooperate with the U.S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack. The committee subpoenaed him on May 12, 2022, but he refused to comply. His refusal raises several questions about his involvement in the events leading up to and on January 6, 2021. It also suggests that Jordan may have something to hide or be trying to protect others involved in the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The U.S. House speakership is a position of immense power and responsibility, second only to the U.S. Presidency. As such, the person holding this position must be committed to upholding our Republic’s and our Constitution’s principles. Unfortunately, Jim Jordan has repeatedly demonstrated unfit for this role. His involvement in the January 6 insurrection and his history of spreading misinformation and promoting conspiracy theories make it clear that we cannot trust Jordan to lead the House of Representatives. We implore our readers to act and call their representatives to voice their opposition to Jordan’s potential speakership. We must not tolerate in power those who seek to undermine our democracy and our values.
